For the survey, the doctors were told to imagine that they themselves had been diagnosed with lung cancer. They were asked which of the six current experimental therapies they would choose.
Sixty-four of the seventy-nine doctors who returned the survey (+75%) said that they would not consent to undergo any treatment containing cis-platinum, which is one of the common chemotherapy drugs they use on their patients. Furthermore, fifty-eight of the respondents believed that all of the experimental therapies mentioned in the survey were not acceptable because of their ineffectiveness and the elevated level of toxicity of chemotherapy.
